Designed and Project Managed: Rear Extension Kitchen/Diner

The Edwardian period property (built circa 1900) had a small kitchen separated from a large, dark rarely used rear dining room. I designed and drafted a rear extension which was within permitted development and would incorporate large bi-fold doors opening out onto a large garden. A kitchen would then be installed in the old dining room to form a kitchen/diner and lounge area. It was vital that the final design fulfilled the brief internally, as well as blending into the original exterior design of the house. Sticking an ugly box on the back of the house could have devalued it and resulted in an ugly eyesore.

The design and build included:

Detailed drawings submitted to Building Control.
Communication with Thames Water regarding any possible build over agreement.
Communication with Building Control during the build and answering queries.
Submitting Structural Calculations to Building Control for the part removal of a wall to be supported by an RSJ.
Roof was to be constructed as a "hidden" flat roof with partial slope to continue from existing side infill extension and tiled to match existing.
Installation of Origin bi-fold doors in rear extension (system 2000).
Outside brick work to be rendered to match existing house render.
Brickwork, blockwork and render completed by contractors HB limited.
After the extension was signed and certified by Building Control I then began work on the Internal Decoration including Cornice, Skirting Boards, Architrave, Floor Tiling and Decoration.
The Kitchen was then sourced from Ashford Kitchens, which I installed and then fitted with new appliances and a quartz work surface supplied by Silestone. click here to see kitchen install Renovation: Kitchen Installation
