Property Renovation and Redevelopment 2018- Lead Designer (Engineering) - AP plc 2008-2018 Designer (Engineering) - Agency @ AP 1996-2008 Company Director - NF ltd Digital Video Production and Website Design 2000-2006 |
My Background.
After leaving sixth form college, I found my first employment as a contract worker in the AP printing office in 1996. Just over a year later I was promoted to supervisor of a team of 6, where I was running the printing office and responsible for the storage of all the company and vendor documentation. This was a role I made my own and I soon introduced systems to make the operation more efficient.
It was several years later that I was noticed by an engineering manager and transferred to the design department. I started as a design technician before my hard-working attitude got me promoted to designer. To fulfil this new position, I enrolled on an NVQ LEVEL 3 in Design and Drafting from the ECITB, where I had to produce documental evidence from the years of working on a vast number of engineering projects. The folder of evidence was completed within a year and proved my level of competence.
Meanwhile, in 2000 I turned my hobby of digital video production into a company and secured work from clients such as Mega Profile, Disney Store, Air Products, Tweedpark H&F and Retail Profile... as well as working as a contract designer. Unable to split my time effectively and with one of my major clients going bankrupt and owing me and others a considerable amount of money, I decided to close the company and concentrate on my designer role. For 2 years I performed the important role of safety representative for engineering at the UK headquarters, alongside my daily design role. The post developed my understanding of the importance of safety in construction and has made it ingrained in how I live my life.
In 2008 I became staff at AP and was promoted to lead designer where I gradually improved my engineering knowledge and experience which I now use on a daily basis in construction. After much thought in 2018 I decided to setup a professional outfit for the property refurb and renovation work I have been carrying out unofficially since 2006. The Covid19 situation was an unexpected curve ball to my plans for corporate growth, however as we emerge from the health pandemic we are getting back on track with the planned refurbishment projects.
